RENTAL AGREEMENT
Driving Speed: 10 mph AROUND TOWN; 20 MPH AROUND THE ISLAND.
The rental agreement is a contract between Lionel Jeep Rental and the renter. It requires the renter’s signature and lists total charges and conditions of rental. All drivers must meet the renting minimum age requirements, have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and present a major credit card in his/her own name at the time of rental.
RESERVATION:
Walk-ins are welcome and may rent a vehicle once it is available. One-day rental is only done during off-season and rate is different from the daily listed rate.
A reservation is confirmed for a specified date when an agreed upon base rate, plus taxes, surcharges, and a $100 deposit has been received. Taxes, surcharges and fees are subject to change.
Modifications to a reservation may result in a rate change.
After we have receipt of the $100 deposit, a confirmation will follow by email, fax or by postal mail. Please state your preference.
In the event that the vehicle becomes unavailable or requires repair, Lionel Jeep Rental reserves the right to upgrade and/or change the reservation to a different vehicle type.
No more than 5 people in a 4-door Rental and 4 People in a 2-door Rental allowed.
CANCELLATION / NO SHOW:
Cancellations can be made up to three weeks before reservation date. If no cancellation was received, the $100 deposit will be forfeited. Cancellations that are within three weeks or more of the reservation will receive the refund of $90 deposit.
PAYMENTS:
Renter must present an acceptable credit card with available credit in their own name at the time of rental, in the form of VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER OR AMERICAN EXPRESS. Signature on back must match name imprinted on card.
We do not accept personal check for the balance of payment.
DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
In order to rent from Lionel Jeep Rental a valid US or international driver’s license is required and must be in hand at time of rental. Renters must present a valid readable un-expired license. It is required by law, that persons with an international/foreign license must purchase a temporary permit to drive in the Virgin Islands. Lionel Jeep Rental can provide that license at a cost of $30.00 and are valid for a period of 90 days. (US mainland and its (territories are exempt to this permit). Lionel requires this permit to be paid in cash.
Photocopies of driver’s license are NOT accepted.
Temporary driver’s licenses are accepted only if for change of residence or replacement of lost or stolen license. If no photo ID, the description on the license must match that of the renter.
It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that he/she has the appropriate driving license.
PRIMARY RENTER:
Primary renter is responsible for the vehicle. (This is the person who signed as the main operator of the vehicle and whose credit card is charged).
ADDITIONAL DRIVER:
Additional drivers must meet ALL rental qualifications in regard to age, driving record, as well as all other standard rental qualifications.
Additional drivers must appear at the rental counter with the primary renter. He/she must present a valid driver’s license and must sign the rental agreement.
There is a fee of $10 per each additional driver. (ie. if there are 4 drivers total, 1-primary & 3 additional would be a $30 additional driver fee)
AGE REQUIREMENT:
The renter of the vehicle must be 25 years of age. Anyone under the age of 25 or over 65 permitted to drive the vehicle is not covered by the insurance.
Lionel Jeep Rental reserves the right to refuse rental of a vehicle if the renter demonstrates inability to handle road rules and conditions.
It is illegal to drink and drive or to control a vehicle under the influence of illegal substance that may impair your ability to properly operate the vehicle.
It is illegal to drive on beaches and washed out roads.
CUSTOMER SHUTTLE:
Shuttle service is offered at Lionel Jeep Rental. The service transports customers to and from our office to the ferry dock and hotels located nearby only. It is a courtesy service. Tipping is at your discretion.
We DO NOT shuttle to or from Villas
GAS POLICY:
Gas is not included in the rate charged. At the time of pick up renter receives a full tank of gas and vehicle must be return the same. At the end of the rental period if gas is not return full, renter will pay Lionel Jeep Rental for gas used, but not replaced. Price per gallon will be higher than local fuel prices.
PARKING AT RENTAL LOCATION:
Free customer parking is available at the rental location at anytime.
MECHANICAL DIFFICULTIES / ACCIDENT:
Renter must notify Lionel Jeep Rental immediately, within 24 hours of any accident. Renter will be required to complete an accident report for Lionel Jeep Rental records and for his/her own record. This report is for both parties’ protection; and is particularly important for insurance purposes.
All accidents must be reported to the police and a police report be completed. Statements made may become a permanent part of the accident report. Renter must be truthful and accurate, as statements may be used in legal claims.
Once the accident report is completed, renter should be able to continue their trip. Depending on the circumstances of the accident Lionel Jeep Rental reserves the right not to supply a replacement vehicle right away.
Lionel Jeep Rental customers in need of emergency road side assistance may call the specified numbers provided at the time of pick up.
Renter must notify Lionel Jeep Rental of any traffic violations tickets. If a traffic violation is not reported and Lionel Jeep Rental becomes aware after the rental has been returned, the renter’s credit card will be charged the traffic violation fee, plus any additional court and service charge fees.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR RENTAL:
The renter is solely responsible for the safe return of the vehicle in the same condition as it was rented. The renter shall be solely responsible for all damages, injuries or death resulting from negligent operation of the vehicle; and shall hold Lionel Jeep Rental harmless and indemnify of any claim, suit or expenses arising from the negligent operation of the vehicle.
Unless prohibited by law, a renter may be held responsible for all damages, including loss of use, should the vehicle be damaged in an accident, stolen or vandalized. This is the case regardless of fault. Regardless of who is at fault, the renter may be asked to pay for the damage up to and including the total cost of replacing the vehicle in case of a total wreck or loss.
Be sure that any estimated damages to the vehicle has been recorded properly before leaving the rental location.
REMOVAL OF VEHICLE TOPS:
Vehicle tops should not be removal due to damage that can occur. A fee of $500 will apply if removed.
KEY DAMAGE:
For lost, wet, broken or any kind of damaged key we charge you dealer cost for a replacement.
DO NOT GET THE KEY WET.
CLEANING:
Lionel Jeep Rental takes pride in the cleanliness of their vehicles. Please do not leave any trash in the vehicle when returning it. There will be an additional fee of $100.00 for vehicle returned messy (excessive mud, sand, etc.). Brush off excessive sand before leaving the beach. E&C gas station has vacuums available for removing sand.
ARRIVAL TIME:
If your arrival time is not available at the time of reservation, please provide us with that information as soon as you obtain it. You should also call from St. Thomas before taking the ferry so we can meet you upon arrival on St. John. We accommodate ferry late arrivals 6:00pm boat at no additional charge. However, a fee will apply to any ferry late arrival after 6:30pm.
RETURN TIME:
Return time of all vehicles is no later 10am. If the vehicle is kept past the return time, an hourly fee will apply and that varies depending on vehicle type. Vehicles that are already reserved for another client must be returned by 10:00am. If for any reason renter refuses to return the vehicle on time, the renter will be charged the full amount of the reservation.
